road closure affecting those who take "traditional « Thread Started on Jun 7, 2008, 11:53am »

Baltimore Traffic Examiner - SHA To Close Section Of MD 450 Near Annapolis Over the Summer - Examiner.com:
(June 3, 2008) - Beginning in mid-June, the Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration (SHA) will close a section of MD 450 (Defense Highway) to through traffic between Crofton and Annapolis to replace the bridge over Bacon Ridge Branch (headwaters of the South River).
The road will close between Rutland Road and the Ridges Gateway Road after schools are dismissed for summer break and remain closed until this fall, weather permitting, and detour signs will be posted.
Motorists will be detoured to MD 424 (Davidsonville Rd) and US 50 (John Hanson Highway) during the construction: Eastbound MD 450 traffic will be directed to turn right onto MD 424 and proceed south; turn right onto the ramp for eastbound US 50 / US 301 ramp, then connect to the ramp for MD 450 (Defense Highway) exit heading east. Westbound MD 450 traffic will be directed to take US 50 / US 301 ramp heading onto westbound US 50, and turn left onto westbound MD 450. The detour will be lifted prior to the fall start of the 2008-2009 school year. All construction is expected to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting.
This road was the main route recommended by the festival back in the 90s and early 2000s, the one published in their newspaper advertisements. Many performers still use it and probably need to be reminded it won't work.
The better route is that posted on the MDRF website - 50 to Aris T Allen, first right to Riva Road, right at the stoplight for Harry S. Truman (Shell station is across the street on your left), follow that around to it's T-intersection end at South Haven and take a right. South Haven turns into Crownsville Rd and there you are.

The good news - according to this - is that the detour will be lifted prior to the school year. Hopefully, this means that it will affect only those who are rehearsing in July and August, and it will be lifted about the time we open to the public.

450 is open from Generals Hwy to Crownsville Rd, past Crownsville rd it is closed to traffic.
Dumb question (my specialty) - this will affect the general after-faire exodus to Famous Dave's/Red Robin/Restaurant Row, will it not (or have I completely reversed the open/closed sections)?

MD 450 near Crownsville OPENED to traffic on Friday morning, August 22. Bridge replacement is finished. Work zone will remain in place for a few more weeks as we wrap up the job but the road will remain OPEN. I work with the State Highway Administration, Annapolis office. Would appreciate any feedback on the project or the manner in which SHA kept the public informed about the road closing and construction progress. Thank you!

Saturday morning I noticed that the warning about the road closure was gone from the festival's web site, but the alternate directions were still posted. The SHA web site still said that the project was underway, and there was no mention of the road being open again.

If anyone wants yet another alt route to take: From 50 take the exit for 3 (I think 13?). Go past 450 on 3 and take a right on to St Stephen's Church Road. You'll go about half a mile before the road veers to the right. Follow the road for about 3 or 4 miles. Take a left on to Chesterfield Rd (I think?) and follow that out to Crownsville Rd. Just take a left and you'll recognize where you are.

Okay, I'll be honest here, I was totally blonde Saturday morning and came up my old route: Rt50 to 3 to 450, through 2 lights and left to the Faire. It was OPEN folks, and it looks like it will remain open.

Please spread the word to fellow Friends of Faire - MD 450 is indeed OPEN and will remain so as we work to wrap up the project. Comments and questions about this project are welcome at contact below. Thanks!

Good thing it's reopened, I look forward every weekend morning to those happy curves and sun dappled soggy zones. I didn't know what I'd do without those curves.

Much quicker way to go is to stay on RT50 and get off at the Parole exit (exitt 21 or 21) make a left 2 lights down, go a couple miles and turn right on Crownsville rd. This route is way faster with little or no traffic.
